If it is not possible by rail, what other options are there?

Thank you

Take the RER B until Châtelet station, then take the line 14 direction Olympiades for 2 stations and there you are : Bercy station =)

How much does the Eiffel tower expand in the summer?

August 20, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I have a few Eiffel tower questions..
1. How much does it expand in the summer?
2. How much does it shrink in the winter?
3. Why does it do this?
Thanks : )

My recollection is that steel expands about one part per million per degree F.
So say winter to summer is a 60 F change, the tower will lengthen by 60 ppm
THe shrinkage summer to winter will be the same amount, or else the thing would gradually grow or shrink away.

How do I take Metro from Eiffel Tower to the Louvre?

July 26, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I want to go to the Eiffel Tower before going to the Louvre. I know that I need to take RER B and then change to RER C to get to the Eiffel Tower, but how do I then get from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre?

Hello from France
if you see the Eiffel tower, the nearest train station is
CHAMP-DE MARS / BIRHAKEIM (ligne 6) or TROCADERO (Ligne 6)
for going to Le Musée du Louvre,
from TROCADERO take the line 9 direction PONT DE LEVALLOIS until CHARLES DE GAULLES ETOILE and change for line 1 direction CHATEAU DE VINCENNES – go down in MUSEE DU LOUVRES
from CHAMPS DE MARS you will have much more changes…

Are there trains from Paris to Milano ?

Also are there any other means of transportation other than Taxi from the airport to the Centre of Milano… ?

Between 29th July & 12th August, Ryanair have flights from Paris Beauvais Airport (BVA) to Orio al Serio Airport (aka Milan Bergamo- BGY) for 12.00€.

Where can you buy the Lego Eiffel Tower set in the United States?

July 16, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I want to by the Lego Eiffel Tower set but on the lego website it says you can’t buy it in the United States. On ebay the cheapest Eiffel Tower set is around $350 and I wanted to know if it was cheaper anywhere else. I would also like to know why it is not available in the United States.

Two websites (fao schwartz and etoys) claim the sell it for 199 but are out of stock. The manufacturer discontinued it so the chances of the websites getting it back in stock are extremely slim. I would definitely try getting ahold of them and see if they know if they will get any in stock.

How do you get to the Eiffel tower from the CDG airport in Paris?

June 25, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I have a 4 hour layover in Paris and i was wondering what the best was was to get to the eiffel tower and how long it takes. Also would it even be possible to get there and still have enough time to get back to my gate?

4 hours is not enough time to get into Paris and then back to the airport in time for your flight.

You will need to allow time to get through immigration and customs, and at CDG that can take 1 hour or more; then find the train or bus into Paris, and that trip itself takes at least 45 mins; then get to the Eiffel Tower; and back to the airport at least 2 hours before your onward flight.

Sorry, but it just can’t be done.

How to get to the Eiffel Tower from the Charles De Gaulle airport using trains?

June 16, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I’m a little confused with the difference between the RER (offered from the airport to Paris) and the Metro system. I plan on getting on the RER and then using the Metro to go around Paris. I only want to buy one ticket for the RER and then an all day pass for the Metro. So what stops should I get off at if I want to visit the Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower then return to the airport? I’m only visiting during a 10 hour layover. Thanks so much guys!!

Yes, you can use the RER and the metro system to get from CDG to Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. The best known metro stop of the Eiffel Tower is Trocadero (though there are a couple other stops within walking distance from the tower as well). Anyway, you will want to take the RER B from CDG to Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame (this a direct line). Go see Notre Dame and then re-enter the RER station, going from Saint-Michel-Notre Dame (on the RER B line) to Denfert-Rochereau (towards Massy-Palaiseau). When you get off at Denfert-Rochereau you will take line 6 to Trocadero (direction Charles de Gaulle – Etoile). To get back to the airport, you will just take the opposite route (line 6: Trocadero to Denfert-Rochereau, swith to the RER B in the direction of the airport). Hope that helps! You can always look up the best route to take at http://www33.ratp.info/touristes/index.php?langue=en

I have a 12 hour halt in Paris, what is the best way to visit eiffel Tower in the limited time?

June 15, 2010 - Posted in eiffel tower

I am flying to Africa and have a halt of 12 hours in Paris. I have 2 school age kids. What is the best experience my kids can get out of the limited time we have there? We would very much like to visit the eiffel tower, is that even possible? What’s the best way to get there?

Take one of the airport busses to Invalides, then it’s about 10 mins to walk. The bus takes about 40mins and goes 7 seven days a week, every 30 minutes from around 5am till around midnight. At the Eiffel Tower there’s a ticket, that is more expensive, than the others with which you can pass the queue, but you should be alright anyway. You’ll see the Invalides, too when you get off the bus or go on the bus. Entrance is free for kids if you have some time left.

What public transportation options are available from London to Paris?

June 8, 2010 - Posted in paris

Would like to know if there’s a good way (aside from air travel) to get from London to Paris while on vacation. Thanks.

Eurostar high speed train. This can be expensive if you book it last minute, but if you book in advance there are a lot of discounts.

The cheapest way might be train or bus from London to Dover, England, then take the ferry to Calais, France, then train or bus to Paris. That’s about an 8-hour trip. Some buses actually go onto the ferry. For the bus, look at Eurolines.
